WHAT IS BAMA AND WHY A MEMBERSHIP FEE?
The Bay Area Miata Association (BAMA) is the oldest active Mazda Miata (MX-5) club in California and is also one of the oldest Miata Clubs in North America.
BAMA was founded on April 22, 1990, by a group of sports-car enthusiasts who had quickly fallen in love with the now iconic Mazda MX-5 Miata, the best selling sports car in history!
Our volunteer-run club organizes fun Miata events and drives on the beautiful winding backroads of the San Francisco Bay region. As a group of enthusiasts, we share community and our knowledge and experience with the Miata. We also help promote the longterm preservation and enjoyment of this amazing sports car.
Annual BAMA memberships help cover the expenses of running the club.
We have on average 12 organized drives and/or events a year, so that’s about $2 per event for a $25 membership.
BAMA membership also can give unique access to special events, such as the Miata Reunion, as well as to group photo opportunities. For example, we have paid the cost of rolling shots taken by professional photographers of members cars.
For some events, such as our annual Christmas party and our annual Show and Shine (members-only car show and picnic), we have to pay venue and other related fees. We also give custom trophies and other prizes to our Show and Shine winners; these have to be paid for by the club.
Additionally, we occasionally create custom swag and gear and give those free to BAMA members.
As a non-profit organization, BAMA also needs to carry liability insurance and must pay State registration/filing, website maintenance, and other fees.
We hope you join the BAMA family and enjoy the driving fun and friendships that come with it!
